This year, Friends Select School is fortunate to have J.M., a student from Afghanistan, join the freshman class.
J.M. is the recipient of a full scholarship to attend Friends Select School, and a family of a FSS alumna has agreed to host his stay at their home. Friends Select is looking for donors to support his breakfast and lunch expenses in the Matthew Huffman ’91 Dining Hall, estimated at $1,500 for the school year. Please help cover these expenses with a tax-deductible gift to Friends Select School.
J.M. was born in Pakistan and lived there until the end of seventh grade, when he took a road trip to Kabul to apply for a scholarship for his eighth grade year. He completed the eighth grade in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan - 1500 km away from Kabul – while living in a hostel with other students.
He is a Global Youth Ambassador for A World at School, an education rights organization. He has volunteered with Save the Children and Afghan Mobile Mini Circus for Children, an educational program that teaches children to lead. He is a Citizen Journalist for Paiwandgah.af, a social media platform that allows Afghans to connect and contribute to the national dialogue about important issues facing the nation.
He is doing well with his academic obligations, and looks forward to expanding his academic and social experiences in the United States at Friends Select. J.M. is a bright and engaged student, and he possesses the qualities of a leader who can make positive changes in the world. We know he will make an incredible impact on the Friends Select community, as well.
Support for J.M.’s expenses will help provide him with an excellent educational opportunity that will have a long-lasting impact on him. Join us in our support of J.M.
