Friends Select School will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 16, 2012.
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., the Friends Select School Parent Association is hosting a Day of Service at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Simon Gratz High School: 1798 West Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia 19140.
Simon Gratz High School, which was recently changed to a
charter school under Mastery Charter, serves kids in
North Philadelphia. Beginning in February, the school will also house a
separate middle school. However, the facilities are in dire need of cleaning
and repair in preparation for these new students.
Our goal is to paint and clean as needed several offices and classrooms
that will be used for Simon Gratz's new middle school. If the weather permits there will also be opportunities to clean up the parking lot and some of the
grounds.
It is important that we have an accurate count of FSS volunteers so please RSVP. There is no cost to participate, all ages are welcome.
Be prepared, you will need:
- Warm clothes to get dirty
- Brown bag lunch
- Roller Covers/Rollers/Extension Polls/Paint Pans, if you have them
There will be adequate off street parking. The closest SEPTA stop is the Erie Station.
